Phonics

At St Pancras Catholic Primary School, it is our intent to equip our children with the tools they need to learn to read fluently, accurately and confidently. Reading is the key that unlocks the wider curriculum, therefore the ability to decode efficiently is essential. It is our aim to achieve this through interactive and engaging lessons provide for all learners.

To help us achieve this St Pancras Catholic Primary school uses Bug Club Phonics which is a comprehensive phonics teaching programme centred on an accessible and inclusive teaching approach.  It is one of the DfE’s approved systematic synthetic phonics programmes.

Below you will find:

  • Our phonics progression document which provides an overview of when phonemes are covered each term and each week. This may be adapted slightly throughout the year depending on the needs of the children.
  • Our phonics policy which outlines our approach to phonics.
